Mendel L. Helig Collection

This small collection of papers is composed of duplicate material in the possession of Mendel Heilig. Primary interest is a scanned and printed photograph of a family gathering that occurred around 1911. Heilig's grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are each identified. In addition, his papers include two newspaper articles - one from the Baltimore Sun (Sunday, May 10, 1998, Perspectives section) and the other from The Daily Times (Saturday, April 13, 1996, Religion section) which discuss Jewish life on the Delmarva Peninsula. Correspondence written by Mendel Heilig in response to the Daily Times article and two maps indicating where the Heilig family immigrated from (Shavil and Urvalis, Lithuania) are also included.

Orlando Wootten Photograph Collection

This collection contains photographs both taken by and collected by Orlando V. Wootten, a notable local photographer on the Delmarva Peninsula. Included in this collection are color and black and white photographs and negatives of aerial, street and nautical views of Salisbury, Maryland, Laurel, DE and surrounding regions. The collection of images captures local businesses, school buildings, public events, watercraft, natural settings and area attractions from the mid-1950s to the 1990s. There are reproductions of historic photographs of Salisbury and the Delmarva Peninsula dating back to the 1850s that Wootten collected. Also included are documents pertaining to Wootten's Coast Guard service and his family's history.

The Richard Culver Papers is a collection of newspapers and research from Richard Culver’s time as an editor for the Daily Times in Somerset County. While editor, Culver wrote about numerous things happening in Somerset County at the time, from crime and government controversies to celebrations and other recreational events. There is research for the tercentennial of Somerset County that happened in 1966, as well as for the Somerset County Jail.
